Sarah Hummel
Reality Check Director, Virginia Beach
Sarah Hummel, along with her husband of 10 years and son, moved back into the
Hampton Roads area from Los Angeles in 2006. Sarah has been an active supporter
of the Reality Check program in Los Angeles since 2004 and has been volunteering
with Hampton Roads Community Care since September 2008. She considers it a huge
honor and privilege to be able to bring the successful Reality Check program to
the east coast. Sarah's heart is to see teenagers make healthy decisions for
their lives and to help them have the confidence to reach their goals. She is
excited to offer this program to the youth of Virginia, believing that it will
be a great instrument for helping kids attain positive decision making skills.
Sarah is an active member of the Portsmouth Coalition for Youth, a former karate
instructor for children and has also spent time as a tutor and mentor. |

Jennifer Myers
Reality Check Speaker
ShineGirl director, Jennifer Myers is a wife to her husband Matt of 3 years and
mother to 2 beautiful children. She works part time as a Cosmetologist and is a
volunteer crisis pregnancy counselor. Empowering young people and building their
self esteem is something she is very passionate about. Jennifer has had the
privilege of working with girls in crisis and is excited to see Reality Check
impact the lives of teens throughout Hampton Roads. "I love working with young
people and being able to use my personal experience to relate to them. It is my
ambition to help them see their worth and value and encourage them to make
healthy decisions for their futures." |

Laura Vandervelde
Reality Check Speaker
Laura Vandervelde is a military wife married to her husband Jonathan for 11
years, mother of three, a fitness instructor and life coach. She has always had
a heart for young people to discover how very valuable they are. Volunteering
for Reality Check in Spring of 2009, she hopes her personal stories of child
abuse and seeking acceptance as a young person will inspire and encourage teens
to see the destiny over their lives. " It's totally awesome to help teens know
the truth and give them what they need to make healthy choices so they can
fulfill their true potential. In these fast paced times we live in where the
messages sent out are strong and sometimes confusing, young people more than
ever need adults to step up, get real and partner with them so their future is
bright and full of hope!" |

Maylissa Luby
Reality Check Speaker
Maylissa Luby is a business woman, a mother of two beautiful girls and a wife to
an awesome husband of 6 years. With a history of negative encounters throughout
her childhood, she has been able to use these experiences to help influence
others in a positive light. She embraces life to the fullest and is passionate
about helping others. She loves to connect with young people on a personal level
and impact their lives. Being a mentor for teens is something that Maylissa
enjoys and embraces. Joining Reality Check in 2008 has given her the opportunity
to speak to teens on how to make healthy choices for their bodies and future.
She finds it a tremendous privilege to educate teens on this delicate subject. |
